The
Cottage
The
cottage is situated in the heart of Assynt, which is an unspoilt area
of natural beauty with superb
beaches,
mountains, wildlife and peace in abundance.
Clachtoll is a small crofting community 7 miles north of Lochinver along
a scenic single track road. There are many safe, sandy beaches along
this coastline, one of which is only 5 minutes walk from the cottage.
The house which was formerly a crofter's cottage is over 100 years old
and was completely renovated 6 years ago. It is double glazed throughout
and now comprises one double and one twin-bedroom, fully fitted kitchen
/ dining room with wood burning stove, sitting room and bathroom with
tub-bath and electric shower. The yellow pine staircase has provision
for stair gates at the top. There is a patio with garden furniture and
a large grassed area which is rylock fenced. The area directly around
the house is post and rail fenced providing a safe play area for children.
The house is equipped to a high standard and includes automatic washing
machine, tumble drier, fridge, freezer, microwave, colour TV, radio
/ cassette and C.D. Player. There is also a small library including
books and maps of local interest.
The heating is provided by electric night storage convector on "white
meter" as is the hot water supply which is supplemented by an immersion
heater. The sitting room also has a dimplex electric fire and the cosy
wood / coal burning stove in the dining room also heats the water.
Linen is not provided but each bed has a duvet and two pillows are supplied
per person.
Electricity is extra and you simply calculate the cost (at current rates)
at the end of your stay and leave the correct amount, in summer averaging
£6.00. We supply coal and blocks.
