Things
to do at Clachtoll
Hill
walking
Mountains to climb, (Suilven, Canisp and Quinag) and for the less energetic,
hill and coastal paths of varying degrees of difficulty. There are also
guided walks by the local ranger to sites such as the Inchnadamph bone
caves. All within easy reach.
Cycling
The single-track road is very quiet in the off peak season and even
in July and August has only a few extra camper vans on it. The area,
however, is hilly so plenty of gears are advised for long trips.
Fishing
The many lochans in the area can be fished for brown trout with the
purchase of a permit from Lochinver. Salmon permits for the rivers Inver
and Kirkaig may also be purchased locally from the Inver Lodge Hotel.
Sea angling from the rocks is free.

Sandy Beaches
The sandy beach at Clachtoll is a delight and is ideal for children,
being sheltered with rock pools to explore. It is accessible to small
boats, canoes, windsurfers etc. Within ten minutes drive there are also
sandy beaches at Achmelvich, Clashnessie, Stoer and Culkein.
Bird
watching / Wildlife
In addition to the birds which may be observed in the wide variety of
habitats in the immediate area, (we saw a golden eagle several years
ago), the famous reserve at Handa Island is only an hour's drive away.
Following a short boat trip, a walk around the spectacular sea cliffs
is a great day out especially in the early summer whilst the bulk of
the sea birds are nesting. Also, look out for Red Deer, numerous seals
and occasional otters and porpoises.
Assynt has an excellent Countryside Ranger Service which organises trips
in the area exploring the local flora, fauna and geology of the area.
Lochinver has shops, restaurants and a new Tourist Information Centre
with permanent displays relating to the Assynt area. Ullapool which
is an hour's drive away has facilities including shops, leisure centre,
swimming pool, museum, golf course, boat trips, sailing and various
entertainments.
